According to the council of private education (CPE), it is estimated that 55% of all parents who currently send their children to public schools would want to send them to private schools.

Private schools are known for having the best teacher- to- students’ ratios and high academic standards to more extracurricular activities and greater parent involvement.

A private school offers a wealth of benefits that most public schools struggle to match. Especially in the rural areas of Nigeria.

In addition, given the poor funding public schools in Nigeria is no surprise that private schools are booming

Therefore, here are reasons why parents are preferring private schools to public schools:

Better learning environment

This can come in terms of smaller class sizes with lesser teacher-to-student engagement. This means that your child will receive more one-on-one time with the teacher and they will not be at risk of getting lost in the crowd when they need help or additional attention.

Decent Facilities

Most private schools do have better facilities compared to public schools. So at times the parent care about the environment their wards are learning and that includes how clean the classes and toilets are, as well as the care and attention given to the students.

Also think of the playground for puplis in primary school, it is always and attractive point for parents.

For safety

Private schools usually have their own security system in place, which help to keep students safe while they are on campus.

Private schools can provide a higher degree of safety than public schools. In fact, private schools are nearly twice as safe as public schools and because there is a greater teacher in-students ration, the levels of supervision is much higher.

And until public schools improved on some of the points raised above private schools will continue be the preferred destination for many parents.
