Easy ways to Manage Malaria risk

According to the WHO “Nigeria suffers the world’s greatest malaria burden, with approximately 207,000 deaths reported yearly. That means that 567 people die every day because of malaria infection.

In addition, 97 per cent of the Nigerian population is at risk of infection, which also mean 9 out of every 10 Nigerians are at risk of been infected with malaria.

Malaria infection is like a culture in Nigeria since everyone is at risk of being infected.

As a result, many initiatives and effort have been introduce in order to control the malaria risk.

Students are amongst malaria infection high-risk category but can manage the malaria risk the following ways.

Prevent yourself from Getting Infected

This implies taking those steps that will prevent you from getting malaria such as:

Make sure that your rooms are mosquitoes free

Always ensure your windows are closed especially if they do not have nets on them. In addition, try as must as possible to keep your room free from mosquitoes by using disinfections from time to time

Sleeping under treated mosquito net

Sleeping under treated mosquito net will go a long way to prevent mosquito from getting access to   your body.

The more you sleep under the net the higher you chances of not being bitten by mosquitoes and the lower your chances of being infected with malaria.

Dress properly to prevent mosquitoes bite

As a student sometimes, you will have to read later in to the night and maybe in classes where mosquitoes are all over the place.

You can help yourself by dressing in a way that will prevent mosquito from getting at you.

Like wearing thick jeans and thick socks that the mosquito’s teeth cannot penetrate.

Managing Malaria Infection

Assuming you do not follow the prevention approach and you get infected with malaria, here are always to manage it:

Always ensure you get tested for malaria before medication

Make sure you get tested for malaria to be sure that you actually have malaria. This because other health risk have similar symptoms with malaria.

Get the right medication and correct dose

If the test confirms you have malaria, the medical professional will prescribe drugs for you and you are expected to take the drugs according as prescribed to avoid mistreatment as malaria can develop resistance to some of the drugs.

So, we believe these are simple ways to cope with malaria risk.
